AMYRIS

BOTANICAL NAME: Amyris balsamifera

Family, Rutaceae

The Plant. Amyris is an evergreen tree native to the West Indies and Central America. The tree grows to about 60 feet (I 8 m) high and has clusters of white flowers that develop into edible bluish-black fruit. Also known as West Indian sandalwood, amyris should not be confused with true sandalwood.

The Fssential Oil. The oil is extracted from the wood chips of the tree.
